In 2013 Ellen Firer, library director of the Merrick Library in Nassau County, Long Island, NY, started out with one 4-station iPad Kiosk for the Children’s Room. Firer was surprised to see how quickly the crayon-shaped learning station became so popular. She soon had to buy a second kiosk to keep up with the growing demand. These days, well over 25 children use the kiosk learning stations in a typical day.

News about the popular iPad kiosks for libraries traveled fast. Soon all 54 Nassau County public libraries had one or more iPad kiosks in their Children’s Rooms.

“The role of the library has always been communication and information,” Firer said, “so it’s important for us to have the technology.
